About Us

The Development and Ability Organization (DAO) founded in 2004. DAO performance has assessed by the Afghanistan Institute for Civil Society (AICS) against five categories including project management and program delivery, financial management, internal governance and strategic planning, external relations communication and outreach, human resurfaces and DAO Activities.

DAO met the certification standard and it was successfully certified. In addition to the above, in generally DAO has received a 'Best NGO Award' from the Islamic Government of Afghanistan's Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled. Many letters of appreciation for our work have received from the Afghan Parliament and many other government and non-government organizations.

Our Services

DAO was founded in early 2004 to develop advocacy, physical rehabilitation, capacity building, awareness activities and research for people with disability.

Capacity Building

In the past DAO has provided different vocational trainings to person with disabilities, and would like to continue this practice, so that, persons with disabilities can get financial security through sustainable development and appropriate jobs. Vocational trainings are mainly provided enabling persons with disabilities to learn new skills and can gain income through the skills that they have acquired. Civil society organizations will have the capacity to monitor government activities and hold them accountable to their obligations.

Women Capacity Building

As cultural restrictions do not always allow mixed gender gatherings, But DAO plans to encourage female trainers to join DAO for providing training to women participants to ensure that this training opportunity will be available for female participants. DAO seeks to ensure that half of the participants are women in our activities.

Micro Finance Loan For Persons with disabilities

DAO intends to provide small size loans to persons with disabilities enabling them to support themselves and their families. DAO sending representatives to national and international events to lobby for the rights and socio-economic reintegration of persons with disabilities.

DAO Rehabilitation Center

DAO is running two Physical rehabilitation centers in the east and south of the country producing artificial limbs for male, female and children with disabilities, implementing gait training assistive devices such as walking frames, elbow and auxiliary crutches and physiotherapy for male and females in the aforementioned locations as well as Nuristan and nearby districts of Daikondy and Zabul provinces.

Physical Rehabilitaiton Services

Physical Rehabilitation Center DAO has two physical rehabilitation centers in Kunar and Uruzgan to provide services in the components of Orthotic prosthetic and physiotherapy. Physical rehabilitation is a process aimed at enabling people with permanent or temporary impairments to reach and maintain their optimal physical, psychological and social functional levels. It provides people with disabilities with the tools they need to attain independence and self-determination, including measures to restore functions and/or compensate for the loss or absence of a function or functional limitation through orthotic, prosthetic and physiotherapy.
