As a director DAO, I am writing on behalf of the Development and Ability Organization (DAO) to request that the Afghan government fully support and implement the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the national Disability Law on the Benefits and Privileges of Persons with Disabilities in Afghanistan. It is very important that persons with disabilities enjoy all the rights of citizenship and their social reintegration be ensured in a practical and productive manner.
The implementation of these acts should be carried out in such a manner that civil society organizations, like DAO, will have the opportunity to monitor government activities and hold government accountable for its obligations and activities. The Development & Ability Organization, DAO, was founded in early 2004 to develop advocacy, provide physical rehabilitation services, awareness activities and undertake research for people with disability throughout Afghanistan. Since early 2005 DAO has been directly involved in provision of physical rehabilitation, and capacity building on the UNCRPD including provision of information in electronic and paper media as well as seminars and direct training to persons with disabilities, and government officials who are directly involved in service delivery for persons with disabilities in Afghanistan.
